Ollie-Based Kickflip Variation
Description
This skateboarding trick combines elements of both the ollie and the kickflip, resulting in a board rotation along two axes: vertically (like a kickflip) and horizontally (180 degrees). The maneuver is initiated with an ollie, followed by a sweeping motion off the nose to induce the flip.
Execution Mechanics
Foot Placement
The front foot is generally positioned angled back, near the front bolts or slightly behind them, ready to perform the sweeping motion. The back foot is placed on the tail in a typical ollie position.
Initiation
The skater begins by performing a standard ollie. As the board rises, the front foot initiates a sweeping motion across the nose of the board, similar to the motion used in a kickflip, but with greater emphasis on the outward sweep to induce the 180-degree rotation.
Rotation and Catch
The board rotates both vertically (kickflip style) and horizontally. The skater catches the board with their feet after the full rotation. The back foot catches first, followed quickly by the front foot.
Landing
The skater lands with their feet over the bolts and bends their knees to absorb the impact.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
- Under-rotating: Not enough sweeping motion with the front foot. Focus on a more forceful and complete sweep.
- Not getting enough height: Insufficient ollie before initiating the flip. Practice ollies to increase height.
- Board flipping too fast: Too much sweep. Adjust the angle and force of the front foot motion.
- Landing primo: Ensure the board rotates fully 180 degrees before attempting to land.
